I was suggesting that you isolate the different parameters first before going into the turbo model issues.
Namely:
Setup issues (gearing, diff, suspension)
Tyres (pressure, grip - read some enlightening posts by AndroidXP, Bob Smith, BBT... even Scawen admitt implicitly that there are isseu by rewoking the whloe system)
Game limitations (grip of the road surface, car rigidity...)
It seems to me that the turbo model inaccuracy is only a minor shortcoming overall, within this work in progress.
This is a failure of a thread that should have remained hiding in the depths of the web, but I'm bored at the moment.
Turbo pressure and them all silly complains: What gear ratios are you using?
Sense of speed: Yes it's a game! As suggested change FOV, you can achieve good results with the latest patch addition (3 or more virtual screens, angled, on your single monitor)
Spinning tyres and such: Using a locked diff aren't you?
Try Bob Smith road going setup, increase overall stiffness a little bit and report back.
Demo servers have limitations that S1 / S2 servers do not have, mainly:
S1/S2 servers can have layouts (can consist of a few cones on the track but can also be very complex)
S1/S2 servers have an increased capacity (Not 13 cars on track max, I think up to 32 with more than 40 connections, should look in the manual for info)
Overall it is possible to find good racing on demo servers, but it will take time for you to find the right place. Usually with a live admin.
On the other hand it is very easy to find good racing on S1/S2 servers, the problem resides in finding people to race with you if you want a specific car / track (called combo around here).
You have to know what you are looking for, and then you will find it.
Unfortunately it does not work, because you can very easily set a preload that exceeds by far the maximum torque generated by the engine with the LSD drivetrain.
Hi there!
Take your time, but do remember that in general the online racing experience is better on S1 / S2 servers (overall less crashers than in the demo).
Do not wait until you have thousands of Blackwood laps before trying something else!
I tested ABS during the test patches campaign and allow myself to make some hypothesis from these tests.
ABS saves your tyres, but does not make you much faster (at least LFS implementation of it). The ability to modulate braking force will make you faster.
However most of us use a travel related brake force, very difficult to modulate, or On/Off brake force, impossible to modulate. The implementation of ABS will help us getting safer beginners (no more T1 lockups) so overall more enjoyable races. The more experienced drivers / realism strivers will not use ABS as it is not faster and boring (but gives consistency).
Scawen has implied not so long ago that we may see setup restrictions. If one of the setup restrictions is related to minimum brake force, and mouse driving / kb driving are still supported, then ABS will become a must.
ABS/TC will eventually become server options in my opinion, similar to reset / forced cockpit view.
Logitech MX1000 gave me good LFS mousing for years.
Wireless but rechargeable on a docking station
Enough buttons
Scrolling OK
Durable (3 years use no problem)
Works on unlikely surfaces (glass covered hotel room desks included)
Logitech annoying software allows you to auto detect LFS and auto turn off acceleration.
Kind of heavy, so increased stability but not so portable.
The current implementation is perfect for me.
When driving with mouse, cockpit view, I set steering wheel + hands to show.
Outside cockpit / custom views the virtual steering gauge does the job.
Pressing "N" to get the connection list does turn the cursor on, that allows me to click on the setup send / receive or "T" for team races.
It would somehow alter immersion to get a cursor flying around the screen in my opinion.
I do not see a need to click on a car in the minimap with the connection list turned off, you would obviously want to know which driver you are spectating.
I get the same result in Shift+U mode
(flickering when rolling the camera + during zooming in/out)
Nvidia FX770 (512MB, screen 1440x900@60Hz)
Intel core 2 duo T9600 @ 2.8 GHz, 4GB ram
Flickering stops when I cap FPS (62 FPS)
Nothing in Forces view.
However it really is a grey area - Myself for example already pay for the F1 broadcast, as the rights have been purchased by Switzerland public television.
How can I be a pirate watching it over the net then?
Same goes for French TV, rights purchased by a private TV broadcasting for free...
What Shadowww said, new computer will not solve it (but may help in other aspects of the game), "faster" internet service will not help if the latency remains the same (very likely, as you will only receive higher flow - costly - while LFS does not use a large broadband.
Have you tried a US based server with a low ping as suggested?
Are you using a wireless connection? (see the thread http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=7085)
Good luck!
I am frustrated with the amount of complains within this thread considering how little we know at the moment though...
One point attracted my attention though:
Comparisons with the iRacing pricing system. I fully disagree that this evolution is similar to iRacing!
Even if you have to get S3 to use the new car+track, you are still entitled to use it without further fees. If you do not pay you can still use the full S2 content.
I see no rental scheme here, but a way to include real life data into the game - this has a cost that must be absorbed somehow, and bring profit (LFS must bring food on the table after all).
The devs take a risk here, and it is up to us to support it - since we (forum users in general) have been requesting real cars and tracks for years in the improvement suggestion threads. In a way we, LFS community, made a "promise" to the devs that a real car / track against fee could work out
So now, stop complaining and if you stick by your words (I will not research names in the real car - track suggestions) - get your wallets ready.
Even insim can be fooled - you can set LFS as wheel controlled and still use buttons for pedals and mouse for steering.
I used to do that in my CTRA/mouser times to avoid discrimination
I enjoy LFS much more with the G25, but that was not easy to get home...
Not that bad!
T1 was a mess but you know that (apex too early, followed by a massive understeer costing you a lot of time and setting the car in a wrong position for T2).
Your lines are pretty good, but there is room for improvement. Overall your apexes are too early for low speed turns, causing you to carry on turning the wheel after the apex and under power - that is the cause for your massive unsersteer.
Check the attached pics for clarity.
So here is my tip: try to brake in a straight line first, then turn in, then apply throttle. After a while you will be able to mix all that while nailing the apex correctly. Correct apex is what's missing from your replay.
Don't ride the curb on the left side of the chicane, it is deadly!
Good luck!
Yes, it is possible to steer with a mouse and apply throttle / brake / clutch with pedals.
It is even considered very efficient in LFS according to these forums.
When in game, select the "wheel" as controller, not the mouse.
Then for steering you have the option to select mouse axis X, and for the other controls the pedals.
Laptops tend to run LFS ok, as LFS is mainly CPU dependant.
Graphics will not matter so much after a few laps
Try to limit graphic settings so that FPS, when playing alone and offline, stay above 50FPS.
Then if you want to know how the laptop can handle online racing add AI drivers (single player mode) - if your FPS remains above 30 when starting from the back of a full grid you're good to go!
I used no AA, low AF on my previous laptop (dual core 2 GHz - 2GB Ram - poor 256Mb dedicated nvidia card) @1600x1050 native resolution, middle range graphics setting overall in LFS and it coped fine with all racing I had.
However all you will get is the S2 registration date.
Unregistered demo times will not be visible obviously (before demo registration became mandatory).
